Colt manufactured their famous Single Action Army revolvers in 3 separate production runs, also referred to as "Generations". In the 1950s, Colt resumed production of the Single Action Army and made a Buntline version, due to customer demand. Lake wrote that Ned Buntline commissioned the revolvers in 1876 and that he presented them to Wyatt Earp and four other well-known western lawmen - Bat Masterson, Bill Tilghman, Charlie Bassett, and Neal Brown. Few other gun makers do anywhere near as well a job on true color case hardening.Item Description: Translate description The Colt Buntline was a long-barreled variant of the Colt Single Action Army revolver that was made popular by Stuart Lake in his highly fictionalized 1931 biography Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal. The older Scout types had alloy frames I believe, (at least many did) an in no case had true case hardened frames.Ĭolt has generally always had very nice colors and patterns in their case hardening. The Colt 22 Scout isn't the same gun as the Peacemaker 22. It's one of the few guns I have on my wish list at this point. I had a Colt Peacemaker 22 years ago and regret selling it. After seeing true handmade quality leather from a realy good maker, you'll never go back. If you want the name and contact info for a true custom quality rig for about what an El Paso rig would cost, PM me. About the only mass produced holster I'd personally consider for that grade gun would be from El Paso Saddlery. A true late 1800's period holster would also be nice, tho many that claim to be, aren't true period style holsters. For a quality gun, it's money well spent.

I would suggest a true handmade holster, not a discount outfit holster. The recomendation to get a good quality lined holster is still good tho. Having said that, it still will wear from contact with leather or nylon, especialy when being carried. They only chemically stain the metal to make it LOOK like color case hardening. The true color case hardened frame is more durable than the inexpensive copies of color case hardening, such as Ruger and other companies use.
